On return address labels:

You should certainly use return address labels. See if your agent has some. If you don’t have an agent a great thing would be to get labels with some sort of graphic that looks like a logo. Or use your headshot on them. However, the logo would give it a look that you have a rep.

On Addressing:

The most important thing is actually sending stuff out. Promotion even in sloppy form is better than no promotion at all. However, there are a few quality things that do make a difference.

#1 If you are using a label, don’t use small return address sized label for your envelopes with 8x10s. It looks unprofessional.

#2 If you have sloppy handwriting or kid like handwriting (big and bubbly with hearts for the tops of your "i") use labels. The sloppy handwriting sort of says you don’t care enough to make sure your communication is clear. The bubbly young looking handwriting is just not very professional. When it comes down to it, this is business. They are looking for someone good, easy to work with and professional. Bubbly is fine, but not on the envelope.

#3 If you are handwriting out the envelope print out a "guide" of heavy lines for spacing your writing. This way you doesn’t start going off to the side. Get white envelopes and put that inside and TAKE IT OUT after you have written the address.

#4 If you can buy a couple simple to use calligraphy pens and get in a liitle practice you will be able to send out something that stands out from the rest.

As far as sending out, the most import thing is getting them out. Then you have the quality of what you send out increase. If you have bad handwriting ABSOLUTELY SEND LABELS. If you have really good handwriting it won’t matter much, but you should make it a bit special. Use a calligraphy pen or something.

Also, don’t use return address sized labels for bigger envelopes. It looks a bit sloppy.

If you're worried about something like that you aren't ready. What's going to make them want to see you is a great headshot backed with a resume packed with good training and some credible amateur credits. Do you have that? Look objectively at your stuff. Would you say, "WOW!" If not then go and improve upon it. Agents are in business to make money. They only sign those who they feel they can make them money. That means you have to be a pro. Mailing labels are convenient. They won't make a difference as to whether you get signed or not.

Honestly, it doesn’t make a difference. I was an intern at a NYC talent agency and was told to just throw it all out. Sometimes without looking at the headshots. This would usually occur when the agency wasn’t looking for new client.

However, as in ANYTHING in life you should put your best foot forward. Print it via computer.

yes print the labels, the neater it looks the more attention they are going to give it and that's what you want, because they get hundreds of head shots a week,and you need every edge you can get.

Printing labels is so much easier, better to read and looks more professional- it IS actually more professional. As an actor you have to send hundreds of headshots over the years and you’ll get tired of writing them all by hand – the agents know this. If you don’t mind the effort and you have a beautiful handwriting than why shouldn’t you write it on the other hand… (if you don’t do huge bulk posts what they don’t like anyway)…I’m sure that the labels are not vital for "getting the job" or the audition or the place in an agency.
Common, you’re an artist and not a postman, aren’t you?
