Retail Clothing Startup- where to find suppliers?

If one were to open a retail clothing business, what is the best place to find wholesale suppliers of merchandise and begin setting up accounts? Anyone experienced in the clothing industry with tips?

Obviously, one would find trade shows and the like in order to sign up vendors. I’m looking for something a little more secific say to the men’s clothing sector.
–Update: this is a US enterprise, and will primarily market via e-commerce. A free-standing retail site may or may not be part of the plan. Thanks!
