What will be the effect of extracting the gas & petrolium product from the earth?
The human is continuously extracting the gas & petrolium product from the internal part of earth surface. Have anybody think over the creation of cavity inside of earth surface, may cause sliding of earth structure or movement of earth or motion of earth around the sun. I feel, It should happen but not able to capture it. Is there any literature over it or is it going blindly because we don’t have the alternative sources of efficient energy.
It is known that the earth’s crust, however solid it appears, is very pliable when large masses and forces are concerned. When a glacier melts, the buoyancy of the earth pressing up under the floor of that glacier can cause the land to rise 40 feet with respect to the surrounding water level simply due to the fact that all that heavy ice is no longer there. A book on Alaska was where I read that. Pumping oil out with certain methods, such as in the recently-opened-up oil sands of northern Alberta, (Article: "Northern Squeeze," National Geographic magazine, circa 2002) involves forcing water in, in the form of steam, in order to get the oil loosened up and pumped out. It’s not as if there is air going in down there! Moreover, the amount of oil coming out, is so infinitesimally small with respect to the mass of the earth, that there is nothing to worry about.

What you describe is called subsidence. It is usually not of primary concern unless it occurs within populated areas. In the 1930′s at Terminal Island in Long Beach, California, the area sank 30 feet because of the many years of oil production. The area now has a surrounding berm that holds back sea water, but has to be monitored regularly. Typically elevation measurements are taken every 5 years or so to check if the subsidence has changed (either up or down). Water is pumped back into the reservoirs to maintain internal pressure to stop the subsidence.
